The first half of the Autumn term was full of fun learning experiences for our Year 6!
Leaf Hunt
In Science, the children learnt about how living things are classified. To understand the concept we started with classifying some tasty sweets. They then applied their observation, questioning and classifying skills to sort vertebrates and invertebrates into their correct categories. Near the end of the topic, Parrot and Penguin class went on a leaf hunt in Markfield Park. Ready with a leaf key and plastic wallet, they went searching for the many varieties of leaves that can be found in our local park. It was brilliant to see the children's excitement and determination to find every single leaf. Afterwards, they returned to class to create a classification key.
Mouldy Bread!
To end their science topic, Living Things, the Year 6s learnt all about microorganisms! They learnt about how they can be helpful and harmful. For our scientific experiment, we investigated the conditions that mould needs in order to grow. Even though the finally results were rather disgusting the children were fascinated by watching the mould go over time.
