Filming With Newsround

This week started of with a special assembly from Dr Chris Van Tulleken from CBBC's Operation Ouch. Children from Year 1 to 6 learnt about viruses and what they do once their inside our body, how vaccines work and why they keep us fit and healthy. Dr Chris then came back later in the week with Dr Xand van Tulleken and a film crew from Newsround to film some of our Year 6s asking some important questions about the Coronavirus! Open Days

Farewell, Mrs Trotman

Today, the children were visited by Mrs Trotman for a final farewell in our morning assembly. The children gave Mrs Trotman all of their cards full of warm wishes, happy memories and sad farewells. Care 4 Calais

This summer I shall be to going to Calais to volunteer with a charity called Care4Calais. This is a UK and French registered charity founded by a group of volunteers that aims to deliver essential aid and support to refugees in Northern France and other areas, and to encourage the wider public to be more welcoming towards refugees. There are currently over 3,000 refugees living in tents and shelters in parks around Calais and Dunkirk. They have nothing – except for the clothes they were wearing when they fled their…

Summer Fair!

Would you like to get involved and have lots of fun doing something rewarding? The Science Show!

Today, the children were shown the wonders and marvels of science from a real scientist. They learnt about acid and alkaline, how liquid nitrogen can freeze beakers and shrink balloons and how fire can grow when surrounded by oxygen. They thoroughly enjoyed watching chemical reactions cause changes in colours, freezing, fire and their favourite of all...making things go BANG!

Young Voices 2018

Crowland performers had the opportunity to perform in Young Voices again, the world's largest school choir concert! Along with 5,000 - 8,000 other children, some of our impressive singers from keystage two, performed as a single choir to an audience full of friends and family. Being part of Young Voices gave the children the opportunity to perform in one of the world's greatest arenas, the 02, alongside incredible artists. Secondary School Applications

This is a reminder for parents and carers with children in Year 6. As with last year, applications must be received before the deadline of 31 October 2017. Any received after this date will be processed after all those who applied on-time, and you could potentially miss out on a place at your preferred school. Everybody Dreams LDN

In June, children from Crowland Primary school took part in an inspiring project, Everybody Dreams LDN, with Gladesmore. Congratulations to Prefects and Peer Mediators

As always, at the start of the year we begin looking for responsible role models within the school to be peer mediators, prefects and school government members. We now have a fantastic group of peer mediators from Year 4, 5 and 6 along with 14 prefects who completed the application process with confidence and professionalism. The last positions to be filled is our school Prime Minister and government members. Buddy Reading with Gladesmore

The children in Year 3 have a fantastic opportunity to buddy read with Gladesmore students. Every Wednesdays they get to go to Gladesmore's library to read with Year 9 pupils. They get a chance to read aloud with their partnering Year 9 then be read to. They are thoroughly enjoying this experience so far and we are all looking forward to creating more links with Gladesmore.

EYFS Open Days

We understand that choosing where to send your child to school is a big decision. Have a Great Summer

What a fantastic way to end the year! We've had sports day, parties and picnics. Sadly, we had to say farewell to Ms Trotman, who will be travelling to India. She will be missed terribly missed but we wish her the best of luck and look forward to hearing all about her new school.

Moat Mount

Children in Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic time at the yearly residential trip to Moat Mount. Moat Mount is a short-stay residential centre in Mill Hill. The children got to experience roasting marshmallows around a camp fire, exploring the forest and completing an adventurous obstacle course.

Mr Winnard successfully completed the marathon, the staff and children at Crowland could not be prouder! As you know Mr Winnard was raising money for St Joseph's Hospice, Hackney, by holding weekly cake sales and organising a sponsored run with Year 4 and 5, which alone raised £1260. We are happy to announce that Mr Winnard raised £4050 for St Joseph's Hospice, Hackney! Thank you to all the parents that showed their support! We couldn't have done it without you!  

A Day of Science

The children had a day full of scientific experiments with our science rotation day. They got to investigate shadows, air resistance, upthrust, gravity and chemical reactions. The best part of the day was a visit from a real scientist and his assembly packed with knowledge. He showed the children the wonders and marvels of science! They thoroughly enjoyed watching chemical reactions cause changes in colours, freezing, fire and they favourite of all...making things go BANG!

World Book Day!

For World Book Day the children got to dress up as their favourite book character or in their most comfy PJs or onesies with a teddy, ready to read their favourite book. We were very honoured to be visited by the author Daniel Morden, who told all the children captivating stories. The children had a great time showing off the costumes, voting for Crowland's Book of 2017 and watching a reenactment of the famous Bruce Bogtrotter eating a huge chocolate cake from Matilda.

Year 5 PGL Trip

Year 5 spent a phenomenal five days at PGL Windmill Hill. The children were able to experience an  incredible range  of activities including: archery, zip wire, fencing, problem solving, abseiling, orienteering, a camp fire and raft building. They had to use a range of skills including communication, co-operation and resilience, as well as having to overcome their individual fears! Well done to all the children for their fantastic behaviour and a big thank you also to all the adults that accompanied the children on this eventful trip.

International Evening

Thank you to everyone that attended International Evening and celebrated the diversity of Crowland Primary School. With a range of performance such as Bollywood dancing, a dragon dance, flamingo dancers and Shakespeare's Macbeth, we celebrated a range of cultures in a unique and colourful way.

Happy Chinese New Year

On Friday 27th January, we celebrated Chinese new year at Crowland. To celebrate the year of the rooster the children brought the school to life by dressing in red! Throughout the day the children went to different classrooms to complete a variety of fun and creativity activities. They made rooster masks, Chinese lanterns, roosters, delicious noodles and dragons. They also learnt Chinese writing and all went home with a special, red good luck envelope to give to a loved one. Young Voices

On Friday 20th January a group of 40 Key Stage two pupils attended the Young Voices event at the O2 arena in London. Singing in the arena where the world's greatest stars perform regularly, our pupils performed, danced and sang their hearts out. Along with thousands of other children singing in harmony they had accompaniment from a wide range of musicians and artists, to create an amazing performance. Year 6's PGL Trip!

39 children from Year 6 spent a fabulous five days at PGL Liddington. The children were able to experience an  incredible range  of activities including: archery, zip wire, sensory trail, problem solving, abseiling, open canoeing, quad biking and raft building. They had to use a range of skills including communication, co-operation and resilience, as well as having to overcome their individual fears! We are always trying to find better ways of communicating with our whole school community and are excited to have our own smartphone app. Our Crowland mobile app allows us to quickly communicate with parents in a way which has reduced our carbon footprint. Online Payments in 2017!

We are glad to announce that in January 2017 we will be launching a new online payment facility called Parent Pay. Parents and carers will start to receive individual letters with their log in details before we break up for the Christmas holidays. This systems allows you to pay for any paid activities online, such as: school dinners trips breakfast club after school club We strongly encourage ALL parents to register to take advantage of this facility as the school will stop accepting cash payment after February half term. TFL's STAR Award

We are proud to announce that Crowland Primary School has been awarded Gold level Accreditation and School of Excellence Walking award by TFL's scheme, STARS. STARS is designed to inspire young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing active travel behaviours like walking, scooting and cycling. We were recognised for all the hard work put into the 5 Minute Walk Zone by the Star Squad last year and the campaign to make the roads outside the school safer.    

Raising Money for St Joseph's Hospice

Mr Winnard will be running the London Marathon 2017 to raise money for St Joseph's Hospice, Hackney. To help him raise as much as he can we will be holding weekly cake sales. Each week, a different year group will be in charge of bringing in delicious cakes to be sold after school. This week, Nursery and Reception managed to raise £110! School Government

The school government is now is session! Each class elected two representatives to express their views, ideas and concerns during government meetings. All the school government members received their officially badges this week and, with their new Prime Minister and deputy, had their first meeting about we could improve the school.

Crowland has voted!

It was a closely fought campaign. The candidates worked hard for every one of their votes. In the end the pupils of Crowland voted for their Prime Minister and there can only be one winner. Congratulations to Channelle, our very first Crowland Prime Minister, and Duyen, our very first Crowland Deputy Prime Minister. We are proud of them both and know that they will do their best to be the voice of Crowland pupils.

Election Day

After inspiring speeches, honest manifestos, eye-catching posters and memorable slogans from all four hard-working candidates, it was time for the pupils of Crowland to vote for their first ever Prime Minister. Class by class the pupils were invited into our very own polling station to vote. Each booth had a prefect on hand to provide unbiased support. The local Police Constable even came to help supervise each votes final destination, the ballot box. The school was full of whispers and anticipation about who the new Prime Minister would be but…

African Drumming!

Sebastian our African performer delighted  pupils  with his drumming and dancing rhythms. This was the culmination of a great week of Black History events. The theme this year was focused on Black composers and the children have enjoyed listening to a variety of genres of music from black artists.   Sebastian, taught the children how to hold and beat the Djembe drum in the correct way. He also taught us traditional African moves.
